For parents · Classes 7 and 8

INAIO opens in Class 9. Two calm years make it familiar ground.

Base Camp builds the maths, coding and AI foundations the Olympiad stands on, in short sessions most days. Summit, the Olympiad preparation year, comes next. Unit 1 is free to try.

When students can take part

INAIO is for Classes 9 to 12. Starting early is about time, not pressure.

For INAIO 2027, the organisers, ACM India, list Indian citizens studying in India, in Classes 9 to 12, born after 1 July 2007. The rules are published each year on inaio.in (opens in a new tab).

Foundations

INAIO open

Familiar, not new

The Olympiad asks about logic, probability, algorithms and machine learning, much of it beyond the school syllabus. Meeting these ideas early, a little at a time, means Class 9 brings practice rather than surprises.

Steady, not rushed

Short sessions most days, one idea at a time. Every topic starts with gentle Trail questions before Ridge and Peak.

Useful either way

The maths, coding and understanding of AI stay useful whether or not your child takes part in INAIO.

The two-year path

Base Camp, then Summit. One clear step at a time.

Year 1 is 12 units of foundations, about one a month. Year 2 is Olympiad preparation. Units open as your child goes, and one they already know can be skipped by scoring 80% on its unit test.

Think like a problem-solver

  1. 01

    Patterns & puzzles

Spot the rule, test it, and reason step by step.

  2. 02

    Numbers that matter

Fractions, percentages, ratios and the algebra behind formulas.

  3. 03

    Chance & data

Probability, counting, averages and reading charts.

  4. 04

    Graphs & networks

Points, lines and slopes — and the networks behind maps, friends and the web.

Talk to computers

  1. 05

    Algorithms & Python

Step-by-step instructions, loops and decisions — and your first Python programs, written and run by you.

  2. 06

    How computers store data

Binary, bytes, tables and grids — how numbers, text and images live inside a computer, explored in Python.

Meet AI

  1. 07

    What is AI?

Rules versus learning, where AI shows up, and using it wisely.

  2. 08

    How machines learn

Features, labels, training and testing — two simple learners, and one you build in Python.

  3. 09

    Is the model any good?

Accuracy and errors, worked out by hand and in code — and why one number is never the whole story.

Bridge to the Olympiad

Stage 1
  1. 10

    Bridge: Olympiad maths

Your first real Stage 1-style reasoning, probability and statistics.

  2. 11

    Bridge: algorithms & ML

Algorithmic puzzles and ML basics, the way Stage 1 asks them.

  3. 12

    Base Camp finale

Data, a first ML algorithm and a Stage 1 taster round.

Year 2 · Olympiad preparation

Summit

12 units · about 3–4 hours a week

Olympiad preparation that follows the INAIO Stage 1 and Stage 2 syllabus unit by unit, with mock papers and hands-on Python.

What a typical week looks like

Short sessions, most days.

Base Camp is built for short sessions on most days rather than long ones at the weekend. A session is usually one of these.

  • Read a guide

Each topic starts with a short guide: the idea, a worked example and the usual traps.

  • Do a drill

Five questions with a 5-minute limit, each with a worked explanation. Three right clears the tier.

  • Play with a simulator

Eleven simulators sit on the path, such as k-nearest neighbours and decision tree splits: move things and watch the idea work.

  • Write some Python

From Unit 5, short exercises run in the browser and are checked automatically. Nothing to install.

Each unit ends with a short unit test, usually 8 questions in 12 minutes. Daily goals start at 20 XP, streaks count steady days, and a daily XP cap stops a marathon session from earning without limit.

What they’ll be able to do by Class 9

After 12 units of Base Camp, your child can:

  1. Reason through puzzles and multi-step problems, and explain why

    Think like a problem-solver · Units 1–4

  2. Read, trace and write small Python programs

Talk to computers · Units 5–6

  3. Explain how a machine learns from data, and judge whether a model is any good

    Meet AI · Units 7–9

  4. Attempt their first Stage 1-style problems, including a timed taster mock

Bridge to the Olympiad · Units 10–12

Foundations first. Base Camp prepares your child to begin Olympiad preparation; Summit, the second year, is that preparation.

The offer

Head Start: both years, one payment.

Head Start covers Base Camp and then Summit for ₹29,999 + GST (₹35,399 with 18% GST), with 24 months of access from the day you buy. That is ₹4,999 less than buying the two years separately. For a child in Class 7 today, the 24 months end early in Class 9, before that December’s Stage 1, so that season needs a Summit plan of its own. Or begin with Base Camp on its own.
