What the check measures

Four areas. 20 questions, 30 minutes.

The questions come from our Olympiad practice bank: five from each area, with two warm-ups, two standard questions and one challenge.

questions
20
minutes
30
areas

  • Maths & reasoning

    5 questions

Logic puzzles, algebra, probability, statistics and matrices: the maths the Olympiad builds on.

  • Algorithms & Python

    5 questions

Following and designing step-by-step methods, and reading short pieces of Python.

  • Machine learning

    5 questions

How a model learns from data, how to tell whether it is any good, and well-known methods such as nearest neighbours and decision trees.

  • Gen AI & responsible AI

    5 questions

How chatbots produce text, and using AI fairly and safely: bias, privacy and data quality.

How it runs

  • One point for each correct answer, and no negative marking.
  • Rough paper is fine. No AI assistants: this is about what your child can do.
  • Questions can be skipped, revisited and changed until the end.
  • The timer keeps running in another tab. Refreshing the page keeps the answers so far, but not the time.

What you get at the end

A level, four scores and a place to start.

Results appear as soon as the check is submitted, on the same page. Nothing to wait for, and no email needed.

A level

One of four levels, from the total score out of 20.

  1. 01
    Explorer0–7 of 20

At the start. Most of these skills are learnable with steady practice.

  2. 02
    Builder8–12 of 20

Real footholds, with some areas still patchy.

  3. 03
    Contender13–17 of 20

Comfortable with much of the early-stage material.

  4. 04
    Front-runner18–20 of 20

Strong across all four areas on this check.

A compass, not a gate. The level doesn’t decide whether your child should take part in the Olympiad. The check is independent practice, not an INAIO paper, and it doesn’t predict how your child will do in INAIO. Use it to decide what to practise next.

Area scores

A score out of 5 for each area, so you can see which parts are strong and which need time.

Every answer explained

Each question shows the right answer, your child’s answer and a worked explanation.

Where to start

  • Base Camp

Maths, coding and AI foundations first, so Olympiad questions feel familiar later.

Suggested for: a score below 10 out of 20, in Class 9 or 10, or below Class 7.

  • Head Start

Base Camp, then Summit, in one plan.

Suggested for: a score below 10, in Class 7 or 8.

  • Summit

Olympiad preparation, unit by unit, mapped to INAIO Stage 1 and Stage 2.

Suggested for: a score of 10 or more, or any score in Class 11 or 12.

The class counts once your child has a free account. Without one, the suggestion is Base Camp or Summit, by score.

How to use it together

Half an hour, and a good conversation after.

The check works best as a calm look at where things stand. A few things help.

Before

  1. 1

    Find a quiet half hour

30 minutes on a laptop, tablet or phone, with rough paper and a pen nearby.

  2. 2

Call it a check, not an exam

There is no negative marking, so a sensible guess is better than a blank.

During

  1. 3

    Let your child work alone

Stay close if they like company, but don’t help. The hard questions tell you the most.

  2. 4

    Keep the page open

The timer doesn’t stop if they leave or refresh. Skipping and coming back is fine.

After

  1. 5

    Read the explanations together

Pick two questions they missed and ask them to explain the idea back to you.

  2. 6

    Talk about the level calmly

It describes today, not your child. Ask which area felt most interesting: that is often the best place to begin.

Want to keep the result? Sign up together from the results page, and it is saved to your child’s new account.

A note on names

Which AI olympiad leads to Team India?

Several contests for school students have “AI olympiad” in their name. One of them is India’s route to the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence: the Indian National AI Olympiad (INAIO), run by ACM India.

Other contests with similar names exist and are not part of that route. They may still be a good experience, but they don’t lead to the Indian team at IOAI.

INAIO’s route

  1. Stage 1
  2. Stage 2
  3. Training and a national camp
  4. Team India at IOAI

INAIO 2027 Stage 1 is on Sunday 13 December 2026, 10 am to 12 pm: online, proctored, objective questions only, and no AI tools.

Four questions to ask of any contest

And INAIO’s answers, from inaio.in.

  • Who runs it?

INAIO is run by ACM India, with ACM IKDD as partner.

  • Does it lead to IOAI?

INAIO is India’s route to the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI).

  • Who can take part?

For INAIO 2027: Indian citizens studying in India, in Classes 9 to 12, born after 1 July 2007.

  • Where do you register?

On the organisers’ own site, inaio.in. The 2027 registration dates and fee have not been published yet.

ProofNPixel AI is independent preparation. We are not part of ACM India or INAIO, and registration is only through the organisers.
